Maple Leaf Residences
This project explores density, identity, and livability within a constrained urban condition. Situated on a 4,800 SF lot, the development introduces three distinct dwellings, carefully composed to maximize space, light, and privacy while contributing to a cohesive architectural presence.
Rather than treating the site as a limitation, the design leverages its compact footprint to establish a deliberate rhythm of built form and void. The three volumes are organized to create moments of separation and autonomy, allowing each residence to maintain a sense of individuality despite their proximity. Vertical massing becomes a key strategy—stacking program and emphasizing height to preserve usable outdoor space and bring daylight deep into each unit.
The architectural language is intentionally modern and reductive. Simple gabled forms are abstracted and paired, creating a dialogue between the units while referencing familiar residential typologies. Material contrast—most notably between the warm, muted orange volume and the restrained gray counterpart—reinforces this duality, giving each dwelling a distinct identity within a unified composition.
Fenestration is carefully considered to balance openness with privacy. Large, strategically placed windows frame views, capture natural light, and establish visual connections to the surrounding neighborhood, while more controlled apertures maintain discretion between units. Interior spaces reflect this clarity, with a restrained palette, clean detailing, and moments of warmth introduced through wood and color.
At its core, the project is an exercise in efficiency without compromise—demonstrating how thoughtful design can transform a tight urban lot into a layered, light-filled living environment. It offers a contemporary model for infill development that prioritizes both density and quality of life, contributing to the evolving fabric of the neighborhood.
